Supriya Sule was caught in a crosshairs after her statement on reservation, then cited the Constitution to give this clarification.

NCP Sharad Pawar MP Supriya Sule has once again found herself embroiled in controversy over her comments on reservations. In a recent statement, she denied the need for reservations for her children, prompting criticism from opposition parties and social organizations. Following the criticism, she clarified her statement. She also demanded government security for Raj Rajapurkar, the state president of the party’s OBC cell.

Speaking exclusively to top new channel on this issue, Supriya Sule said, “I am very clear that we should all follow the Constitution written by Babasaheb Ambedkar. He suggested that this country should run on the Constitution. I was only talking about my children. Clarifying her statement, she said, “I was specifically talking about my children. I was born into a liberal family and married into a very liberal family. As Supriya Sule, I did not feel it was morally and ideologically right to take advantage of women’s reservations. My point was limited only to my two children. If people listened to my entire conversation, they would understand. My children are empowered and educated; they should not ask for reservations.”

When asked if she believes in caste-based reservations, she replied, “Yes, it’s still necessary. We live with many social issues and challenges. We must take everyone along. This was Babasaheb’s dream, and I respect him.”
She also said that based on the data, for example, the Maratha, Lingayat, and Dhangar communities have demanded reservations, which should definitely be debated. But the issue of SC and ST reservations has already been settled. My entire speech on that stage was specifically about my family.”

Clarification on VBA Allegations

The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) had criticized Supriya’s statement, calling it against the Maratha and other communities. To this, Sule politely responded, “With humility and with folded hands, I appeal to everyone to watch my video. I have said it very clearly in it. Perhaps they missed it, but I request them again.”

Party leader receiving threatening calls

Furthermore, Supriya Sule issued a statement on Monday afternoon, saying, “Raj Rajapurkar has been receiving threatening phone calls for the past three days, with some people even threatening to kill him. This is a very serious matter. Maharashtra has a glorious tradition of respecting opposing ideologies and responding to opinions with opinions. It is sad that incidents that undermine this tradition are continuing.”

Requesting security from the government

She appealed to the Maharashtra government, saying, “I appeal to the state government to provide immediate police protection to Raj Rajapurkar, as his life is in danger. Strict action should be taken against those threatening him.”
It should be noted that this entire controversy arose from Supriya Sule’s comment on a TV program, in which she made comments regarding reservations.
